SILENT NIGHT, BLOODY NIGHT // DARKCOAST
When a grandson inherits a mansion-then-turned mental home, ghosts from his grandfather’s mysterious death arise, scaring the town.

Los Angeles, CA – December 18, 2018 – SILENT NIGHT, BLOODY NIGHT’ is an “engaging body-count movie that’s ahead of its time. The similarities to Black Christmas are definitely there, from the mysterious phone calls, the Christmas setting, point-of-view shots and general stalk-and-slash mayhem,” wrote Horror News.

DarkCoast presents, from Director-Writer Theodore Gershuny (Sugarcookies) and Writer-Producer Jeffrey Konvitz (Spy Hard), the special re-release of SILENT NIGHT, BLOODY NIGHT (aka Night of the Dark Full Moon and Death House) – the very first of the ‘70s body-count slasher films, creeping onto U.S. streaming platforms this December. Be the first to watch it here on Fandango today: https://bit.ly/2QElCoM.

Splashed with even more thrilling horror from producers, Ami Artzi (Night of the Living Dead) and Lloyd Kaufman (The Toxic Avenger, Tromeo And Juliet) SILENT NIGHT, BLOODY NIGHT dives deep into “subject matter [that] is dark, entailing incest and mental illness, and there is horrid blood-soaked imagery,” described Dread Central.

On Christmas Eve of 1950, Wilford Butler (Alex Stevens) returns home to discover that his house has been turned into a mental institution for the criminally insane. But upon the day of his return, sudden fiery flames completely engross Wilford, leaving the town to believe his death was an accident. Buried on New Years Day, the institution is closed down and the estate is left to Wilford’s grandson, Jeffrey Butler (James Patterson). Remaining vacant for over 20 years, Jeffrey decides to sell his grandfather’s house, despite the hesitant from the townspeople and the Mayor. But, the town’s snowy-white Christmas is about to turn bloody red when a serial killer escapes, finding refugee at the Butler estate. The dangerous escapee begins to haunt the town with frightening phone calls and murdering anyone who comes near the house.

Simultaneously, John Carter (Patrick O’Neal), a lawyer from New York City, comes into town with his girlfriend Ingrid (Astrid Heeren), seeking Mayor Adams (Walter Abel) to inquire about purchasing the Butler estate. John encounters the mute newspaper publisher, Charlie Towman (John Carradine), the communications director, Tess Howard (Fran Stevens), and Sheriff Bill Mason (Walter Klavun). Little do John and Ingrid know that Mayor Adams’ daughter is Diane Adams (Mary Woronov), discovers James and becomes enthralled in the mystery herself. Ultimate hell unravels when Diane comes across old newspapers, learning of Wilfred Butler’s daughter, Marianne, who had been attacked when she was 15. Diane also discovers that in 1935, Butler had given the property to Dr. Robinson with means to re-design the mansion into a local insane asylum, where he eventually committed his daughter. As Jeffrey begins to investigate himself, he uncovers Marianne’s old-childhood diary – divulging secrets of Marianne’s past and her lasting legacy.

As new mysteries open and additional secrets emerge, Diane and James’ curiosity leads them to link strange commonalities between the town’s mystifying events. But, what could the killer have in common with what happened to Wilford Butler years before?

“The mystery […is] satisfyingly wrapped up with a shocking revelation in the finale, featuring an unsettling flashback depicting frightening figures with blurred faces and employing the aesthetic of a sepia-toned picture that resembles the beginning of film. The entire proceedings are encapsulated in a cold and eerie atmosphere, due to being dankly lit and the isolated locations. Used to great effect is a truly chilling rendition of the traditional Christmas carol “Silent Night” sung by a little girl. This is an extremely effective low-budget slasher forerunner and a gem of a rarity,” praised Dread Central.
